Inauguration of “Miyaneh-Bostanabad-Tabriz Railway” Mega Project
After a protracted delay, the Miyaneh-Bostanabad-Tabriz Railway project was finally inaugurated on Friday, June 9, 2023, in the presence of the President.
The most important railroad project in the northwest—Miyaneh-Bostanabad-Tabriz—was taken on by the then-Minister of Roads and Urban Development in 2000. With this project, Iran’s rail transportation will undergo an economic revolution that will shorten the distance between Tehran and Tabriz, lay the groundwork for an Iran-Europe connection, and boost the prosperity of rail exports.
The project is 203 kilometers long, and by cutting 130 kilometers from the route, it will shorten travel time from Tabriz to Tehran by four to five hours. It will also save 1.5 billion liters of fuel annually by facilitating access and rail transit to Europe.
Metra Consulting Engineers Company has been serving as a monitoring body on this project since 2016. The main services provided by this company are as follows:
- Planning, project execution methods, project progress control
- Engineering services
- Coordination, implementation, and temporary delivery
- Quality control
- Estimation, payment and cost management, and contract legal affairs
- Services for the course, operating guidelines, and final delivery
- Supervision
The two-track Miyaneh-Bostanabad-Tabriz railway begins at Miyaneh Station, which is situated on the Tehran-Tabriz railway route, and then connects to Tabriz Station by passing through a mountainous route and some towns such as Turkmanchai, Bostanabad, and Basmanj. This was the first project to utilize Iranian-made rails (60E1).
