Road Landscape

Landscape Definition

According to the comprehensive and accepted definition of Iranian Scientific Association of Landscape Architecture “Landscape; it is an objectively mental phenomenon; dynamic and relative, which is the result of the interaction of' man and society with nature 'and' history.

Note that the landscape is different from the view. Our senses' perceptions of the objectivity of the body combine with the semantic aspect of the space in our minds and form the concept of perspective, which is unique in every place and for every person. The mental image of a landscape has similarities between audiences.

Landscape architecture is a nascent and interdisciplinary science that has been established to further coordinate the disciplines of human living environment design (including architecture, civil engineering, environmental design, urban design, etc.). The principal activity of landscape architects in designing and executive teams causes less environmental errors and damages and the maximum provision of resources with full protection of cultural and human values.

Landscape architecture includes three dimensions of 'performance', 'beauty and identity' and 'ecology', which according to the problem, situation and resources of the design context, one of these dimensions becomes more important and the objectives and approach of future interventions are determined based on this. However, one can never completely ignore one of these aspects.

Road Landscape Definition

'Road Landscape' includes passengers' perceptions of the environment and the perspectives associated with the road, which encompasses all the natural and artificial elements of the road to the distant horizon.

The main role of the road network is to establish convenient and fast communication between biological and activity centers. But in today's world, the 'way' is no longer just a transitory path; It is a cultural product. Traveling is one of the richest experiences of a person that forms part of his memories and perception of the world and life In developed countries today, the principles of road engineering to build straight, wide and fast roads are not the only criteria for designing and building roads. Merely responding to the functional need for fast motion in a straight line is not always desirable and should be prepared for landscape management. Beautiful and legible landscape by maintaining the driver's attention and vigilance can also increase the efficiency and safety of the route.

Road Landscape design services

It is essential to study and manage the landscape at different scales and determine the requirement for transportation projects to define landscape designs. The level of participation of a landscape expert in the project is determined based on the type of project and the values of the landscape.

Landscape plans are divided into two categories: strategic plans, and action plans, in which corridor plans and section plans (thematic and local plans) fall into the second category. The landscape strategic plan is prepared as an upstream plan for large areas and important axes. A thematic plan is a short-term plan in a specific field; Including surface water and drainage management, lighting, planting plan, organizing buildings and boards, etc.

A local plan is a short-term plan in a specific area; Including technical buildings of roads, stops or intermediate welfare services complex and ...

Road Landscape Design Approach

The time to define and prepare a landscape plan is important; Since most of the landscape considerations must be implemented during road construction. Landscape strategies, such as environmental considerations, should be accepted as a framework for path design constraints. According to the latest developments in architectural design [1], the layered solution [2] for landscape design is also common. The first layer of the natural environment is the bedrock of the new route. Physical, historical, cultural, economic, traffic and similar characteristics are also collected. Then, by assigning a weight coefficient and overlapping the layers, by recognizing the values of the landscape and the needs of landscape design, objectives, strategies, policies and strategies are determined. Design solutions can be prepared in the form of design or presentation of rules and instructions.

As the 'first Iranian consultant' active in this field, Metra Consulting Landscape Department is ready to provide engineering services at the following different levels:

  • Studies and pathology of the current situation of roads under construction or in need of improvement (phase zero)
  • Providing strategic plans for Road Landscape (Phase Zero)
  • Landscape design of corridors of roads and railways (phase one and two)
  • Preparation of thematic road landscape designs such as road buildings including bridges, tunnels, retaining walls, road protection, etc. (Phase one and two)
  • Preparation of local landscape plans such as bus stops, intermediate service complexes, perspectives, etc. (Phase one and two)
  • Development of various criteria packages for planting plans, lighting, environmental advertising, roadside buildings, etc. (Phase one)
