The growth of public transportation has always been a top priority for Tehran’s urban management because it is one of the signs of progress in any metropolitan community. Line 7 of the Tehran Metro connects the west to the east and the north to the south of the city. The line’s final stop is at Y7 in Meydan-e Ketab, which is located northwest of Tehran. After Y7 station, there are, however, almost no public transit routes. Due to the expansion and density of the residential neighborhoods at Chahar Divar, Jannat Abad, and the Science and Research Branch of the Islamic Azad University, extending line 7 to the farthest end of northwest Tehran may make it easier for locals to commute within the city.
Act 156 of the High Council for Urban Traffic Coordination of Iran states that any previous feasibility studies for extending the line must be examined and updated if the results of the studies for the first phase are positive.
Tehran Urban and Suburban Railway Co. (Tehran Metro) and Metra Consulting Engineers Co. signed a contract in November 2022 for consulting services related to assessing conceptual design studies for Tehran Metro line 7 northwest construction.
